Once again popular instructor Doug Beasley will join us in Guatemala to celebrate with local indigenous Maya on one of their major feast days - Todos los Santos - All Saints Day November 1. (Image: Candles by Douglas Beasley)
On this day, families flock to the cemeteries to put colorful new paint headstones, bring flowers, fly kites and light candles at their families grave sites. It's a family picnic, visiting their loved ones who have died, eating 'fiambre' and celebrating into the night.
We'll explore small villages, their cemeteries, markets and simply observe (and photograph) people go about the business of their daily lives. Along the way, we'll spend time at a house of Maximon during his annual birthday celebration, build a 'Spirit House' honoring our own ancestors and friends who have died, experience a Mayan ceremony, and most importantly, meet and get to know people along the way.
Doug has been teaching with us in Guatemala since 1995 !! He will challenge your creative vision and help you open yourself to new ways of seeing on this visual exploration of Guatemala - a land where indigenous Mayan live as they have for centuries. (Image: Three Crosses by Douglas Beasley)

His skill lies in initiating and facilitating thought provoking discussions - about all sorts of things that affect our view of the world - which is what our art is all about.
