Stunning images require magnificent light -- and a photographer who understands how and when to shoot in that light. Its quality, its color, and where its coming from all
determine whether your resulting images will be mediocre or exceptional. You'll spend early mornings and evenings out shooting (when the light is magic) and mid-day in class and critique sessions (with time off for just enjoying your wonderful surroundings).
Liza will cover working with people, helping them feel natural in front of camera, composition, shooting tight and the all important - light - where it's coming from and how to make it work for you.

We start out in lovely UNESCO World Heritage Site La Antigua Guatemala, visiting small outlying villages (sometimes in a pickup truck), learning how to make tamales, meeting local families. (Image: Tortilla maker by Diane Tempest)
We'll also meet Calixta and learn about Mayan ceremonies, including an introduction to the 2012 long count Mayan calendar and what the 21 December 2012 end date is all about.
Then we will spend two nights up at the lovely Posada Santiago in Santiago Atitlan, where women still wash clothes on the shores of Lake Atitlan, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. While in Santiago, we'll spend time exploring other lakeside villages, such as San Juan la Laguna, and spend some time discussing the Maya calendar and what 2012 is all about.
A highlight of your trip will be the opportunity to photograph the processions that wind thru the streets of Antigua every Sunday during Lent. We'll be there for the impressive procession from Iglesia San Bartolo - one of the biggest processions of the year.
To honor God and show their faith, families construct carpets - alfombras - made of sawdust, pine needles and flowers in the streets in front of their homes. They are unbelievable !!
And even more fun, we'll meet mid day, after having a chance to see other carpets, to put out pine needles, cut flowers and design and make our own carpet.
